Abstract

This study aims to examine the quality of subtitling for humour in the movie Si Juki The Movie: Harta Pulau Monyet. The objectives of this research are to identify the quality of humour translation on an adapted version of Pedersen’s FAR translation quality assessment (2017).
This study employs a descriptive, qualitative method and is supported by quantitative data. The data were extracted from the Indonesian and English subtitles of the movie, focusing on dialogues that contain humorous elements.
The results show that calque was the most frequently used strategy because it enables the translator to accurately convey the original meaning while maintaining the dialogue’s clarity. The study concludes that translating humour in audiovisual media requires not only linguistic accuracy but also cultural adaptation to preserve the comedic effect. The adaptation of Pedersen’s FAR translation quality assessment model (2017) is effective for examining how humorous elements are transferred from the source to the target language while maintaining readability and synchronisation.
