Abstract
This study examines students' experiences in listening to English songs to enhance their vocabulary mastery. The researcher used a qualitative narrative approach and collected the data through interviews. The sample for this research is three students of the English Education Study Program, Universitas Palangka Raya. Then the data were analyzed using three-dimensional theory by (Clandinin & Connely, 2000). The results show that listening to English songs has a positive improvement on students` vocabulary. Based on their experience, participants who listened to English songs regularly and consistently since childhood reported significant improvement in their vocabulary, particularly in informal expressions such as idioms and slang. The participants considered English songs an enjoyable medium for learning vocabulary. English songs contain melody and rhythm, which make them feel unburdened in memorizing new words in the lyrics of the songs. A place also influences their experience in listening to English songs to master vocabulary. They mentioned a quiet place is more comfortable for listening to English songs and mastering vocabulary than public places. Quiet places provide the focus for retaining vocabulary when listening to English songs. Overall, English songs are an effective medium for mastering vocabulary based on their experience.
