Abstract

This thesis examines the use of prefixes and suffixes in comic strips of English for Nusantara in eight grade of junior high school published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. In this research the writer uses all of words that are attached prefix and suffix as the data. The type of this research is descriptive research. This research can increase the readers knowledge about prefixes and suffixes, the word class and the meaning.
The researcher found the types of derivational affixes in comic strips of English for Nusantara in eight grade textbook there are prefixes in- and re-, while there are 19 suffixes -ly, -y, -er, -ion, -ate, -ness, -ual, -ful and -ence. The most frequently number function is noun formation, along with other word forms, suggests that students are consistently exposed to practical examples of how derivational morphemes modify and expand word meanings. This contextual exposure helps the process of word formation, making it easier for students to grasp the underlying principles. By encountering derivational morphemes in comic strips, which are inherently engaging and relatable, students can better understand and retain these concepts, improving their ability to apply them in both written and spoken English.
