Abstract
Most of the teachers in class hardly encourage the students in Englishlanguage-based oral interactions. Moreover, Indonesia’s English learning method stillhas monotonous activities, especially in speaking comprehension. Therefore, thisresearch was conducted to determine the effect of Project-based Learning (PjBL)through storytelling on students’ speaking skills. This research used quantitative research methods where the type of researchwas a pre-experimental design which used one group pre-test and post-test. Thesubject of this research was the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 4 Palangka Raya. The populations were 419 students, the treatment group was XI-1 as many as 36students. Instruction test was used as the research instrument and the data wereanalyzed by statistical data calculation which used the Wilcoxon Ranked Test MethodThe result of the research, the mean score of the post-test is higher than thepre-test (71.48 > 68.25). The result of data calculation by using the WilcoxonRanked Method in different test pre-test and post-tests was interpreted as p-value0.047 < alpha 0.05, meaning accepted the Ha hypothesis. It meant that there was theeffect of using Project-based Learning (PjBL) through storytelling on the students’speaking skills of the eleventh-grade students in SMAN 4 Palangka Raya in theAcademic Year 2023/2024. Therefore, it was concluded that with Project Learning(PjBL), the eleventh-grade students at SMAN 4 Palangka Raya in the Academic Year2023/2024 carried out a series of activities to explore how to tell stories, whichincluded pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency in telling stories andunderstanding the meaning of stories from narrative text. The harmony of thislearning strategy had a positive effect on the speaking ability of the eleventh-gradestudents in SMAN 4 Palangka Raya in the Academic Year 2023/2024.
