Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of visual media on the reading comprehension in class X TKJ 1 of SMK Negeri 3 Palangka Raya and to find the how effective the visual media as learning media in improving the students' ability when they try to understand the text. The researcher was used the narrative text as teaching material where the students were read the folklore with added picture series in the narrative text so that they could understand the storyline easily.
For finding the results, the researcher used pre experimental design (pre-test, Treatment, Post-test). The test was carried out in form of multiple choice contained 20 questions which followed by 36 students and the test criteria was about generic structure of narrative text. Based on the analysis, the pre test result was 59,86 and the post test result was 81,11. Then these tests were analyzed by using SPSS, through normality test. The result of normality test for pre test was 0,013 and post test was 0,077. After this, the researcher continued through wilcoxon (non parametric test)and the result in wilcoxon was 0.000. which mean, the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because Asymp.Sig was smaller than Sig.level (0.000< 0.05). It can be concluded that there was significant effect of using visual media on reading comprehension in students' ability of X TKJ 1 of SMK Negeri 3 Palangka Raya.
